NFL selections for week 2: San Francisco leads the way
Six Selections for week 2 of the NFL SeasonThere have been very few times in the last few years where we liked the 49′ers enough to tout them as a strong play, and we can assure you there are NO times in the last few years where we felt they were our best play of the day…but that changes this week. We love the 49′ers to cover against a very mediocre Seahawk team. We also have five other plays….so let’s get to getting. San Francisco -1 over Seattle The 49′ers were not pretty against Arizona last week but that fact remains they still beat the Super Bowl runnerups…which is something to brag about…at least a little. The 49er’s did it without much of a running game. Their defense is tough and physical, led by the next GREAT LB in Patrick Willis. The Seahawks played an AWFUL St. Louis Ram team and beat the hell out of them 28-0, but really, almost any team in the NFL could beat the hell out of the Rams. Beating St. Louis was nothing compared to San Fran beating the Cardinals. Look for the 49er defense to control the Seattle offense and look for the 49ers to get their best offensive player, Frank Gore, untracked. We like a final of San Francisco 27 Seattle 17. San Francisco -1 over Seattle. New England -3 over NY Jets Let’s face it, the Patriots were very lucky to win the game against the Bills last week. EXTREMELY lucky. Think about this. If the Bills just down the ball on the kickoff they win the game…but a very untimely fumble gave the Patriots another chance and Brady made the Bills pay for it. The Jets were really impressive against the Texans, but it is really hard to say this early in the season if the Texans are much. We just don’t know how good that Jet win over the Texans really was. What we do know is that Rex Ryan and the Jets like to talk tough, and they might be able to back it up. But with a rookie QB (albeit a very promising one) in Sanchez we have a feeling Billy B. is going to cause the Jets offense some troubles. The Patriots offense looked awful last week until the last couple of drives. So what offense do we expect. Well we expect an offense that more resembles the Patriots of last year. Not as good as the year before but pretty good. The Jets can play some defense though and the league is starting to realize that Brady is not so good when he faces pressure. The Giants figured that out in the Super Bowl and we expect the Jets to go after Brady very aggressively. And by doing so we expect the Pats to hit some big plays. The Patriots seem like the better team and we see them winning by a TD. New England 21 Jets 14 Minnesota -10 over Detroit The Lions are horrible. The Vikings are one of the best teams in football. Look for Farve to have a decent day and look for the Lions rookie QB to make some plays but also make some big mistakes that lead to a fairly easy Viking win. Vikings 31 Detroit 13 Buffalo -4 over Tampa Bay The Bills were extremely unfortuneate to lose last week to the Patriots while the Bucs look like a really bad football team. The Bills have enough firepower to score plenty of points on the Bucs and how the hell are the Bucs going to score points. They have NO playmakers on offense. The Bills should win this game handily. Buffalo 27 Tampa Bay 10 Pittsburgh -3 over Chicago Pittsburgh is coming off of a tough win against Tennessee and Chicago is coming off a terrible performance against Green Bay. Well at least it was Jay Cutler that played horrible. Pittsburgh should be able to fluster Cutler and make him throw a few more int’s while the Steelers should be able to get their running game going with Urlacher out for the season. We like the Steelers by at least a TD. Pittsburgh 21 Chicago 14 N.Y. Giants -3 over Dallas In almost every case we would take the Cowboys in this spot. They are a solid team, opening in a new stadium, national TV audience, and a FG favorite over their big time rivals. But something about this game smells. The Cowboys beat a REALLY bad team in Tampa Bay last week which doesn’t count for much. The Giants beat a mediocre team in the Redskins but that win was more impressive than the Cowboy win over the Bucs. The Cowboys appear to have problems on defense. They are not getting sacks and turnovers and if that happens agains the Giants they will lose. This Dallas defense just doesn’t seem to have much teeth. The Giants are just one tough consistent football team that seems to play best when they are in the spotlight. We look for the Giants to win a tight game and send the Cowboys and their fans home disappointed. Giants 24 Cowboys 21. We will have our Monday night winner out by 5:00PM Eastern Monday evening.
